Huygens Engineers performs contract calculations and contract simulations
During the process of development, design, and engineering, we perform advanced calculations and simulations in the following areas:
- Mechanics, including finite element analysis (FEA)
- Heat transfer (thermal simulations)
- Fluid dynamics (Computational Fluid Dynamics, CFD)
- Electromagnetism
Building interfaces between different software programs, advanced postprocessing, and programming are regular parts of our work.
Paradoxically, all advanced modelling starts with analytical insight. This gives us a starting point for a design, an expected result from advanced methods, and helps us understand what drives a design. For more detailed insights that require more work and yield more accurate results, we perform numerous calculations and simulations. The extent of this varies per project.
In addition, we carry out contract calculations and contract simulations directly for clients.
Our expertise
- One of the largest ANSYS Mechanical Enterprise CFD Maxwell 3D licenses in the Netherlands: This allows us to perform coupled simulations in the fields of mechanics, fluid dynamics, and electromagnetics.
- Our own Windows compute cluster: With 384 GB RAM and 36 cores for computationally intensive simulations.
Software commonly used for calculations and simulations:
- Altair Fluxmotor
- Altair Embed
- ANSYS Mechanical Enterpise & Pro
- ANSYS CFD (Fluent, CFX, ICEM)
- ANSYS Maxwell 3D
- Kisssoft

Configuration software
For mature designs we develop software to help engineers validate applications in the areas of service life, strength, and heat dissipation. This software is typically designed to run autonomously using languages like Python or .NET. The core of the software may utilize analytical methods or be based on custom 2D FEM simulations.
