Electrical Engineer Systems & Control

A balanced professional with a good electrical engineering foundation with a hands on mentality

Huygens Engineers is currently growing. To cope with this growth, we are looking for a balanced professional with a hands on mentality to join our team as an Electrical Engineer, either in Hengelo or The Hague. The job consists of identifying requirements, designing and realizing customer- and application solutions.



€ 3000-5500 euro p/m

Requirements

Background and Experience
  • BSc or MSc Electrical Engineering with background that includes component selection, electrical schematics design, control design.
  • Proven programming experience/skills in at least one of the following: PLC (ST), C / C++
  • Proven experience/affinity in creation of electrical diagrams for single and 3 phase systems
  • Affinity with measurement and test-campaigns and with troubleshooting. Important skills and competences
  • A thinker with a balanced conceptual and practical approach who enjoys implementing his analysis in a system that works, from electrical and control concept design to component selection, single line drawings, then to cabinet design, and embedded software or PLC and then SCADA.
  • Experience with working in projects within a team
  • Both Dutch and English are working languages at Huygens Engineers. Therefore, we expect the candidate to apply to have an excellent command of one of both languages, and some level of proficiency in the other.

Tasks

Depending on the project size and project nature, work happens individually or in a team. The team may be constituted of electrical engineers, mechanical engineers and engineering physicists at Huygens engineers, but may also include representatives of our customer.

Identifying requirements:
  • Interact with the client to identify, report and verify requirements
  • Check applicable standards and implementation of the standards
  • Interact with suppliers to identify critical values of parameters
  • Consider feasibility aspects and system analysis

Design activities:
  • Analysing the physics and develop analytic model
  • Control system modelling and stability analysis in for example Matlab-Simulink
  • Optimization of design
  • Using version control tools like: GIT, SVN, PDM
  • Develop in house software tools for automizing the design process in Python, Matlab/octave

Realization activities:

  • Measurement hardware & software specification
  • Implementing hardware, making schematic for cabinet builder
  • Implementing software in Converter, PLC, PC, etc.
  • Defining the measurement protocol
  • Measurement execution (in person or through others)
  • Analysing measurements, fitting data and check results with design
  • Commissioning and troubleshooting (in person or through others)

Communication with the customer and proper filing is part of the work: report writing, presentation making and giving presentations to customers.

We deliver three main engineering processes: straightforward engineering, high maturity development and low maturity development. The industries we are active in are: high tech production technology, renewables, marine propulsion, and high tech fluidics. Our fields of expertise are advanced mechanical engineering including heat and fluid interaction and electrical engineering including actuator design, control design and power conversion control. We design, engineer, realize and validate technical innovations for customers, including necessary special tools of any nature. We also assist asset operators and -developers in their development and deployment programs.

Work environment

  • An experienced team of 26 professionals, including 4 Electrical Engineers. 22 additional colleagues are active in advanced mechanical engineering and engineering physics in Hengelo (main office) and the Hague. These locations aim at closeness to Twente University and Delft University
  • We balance hands-on mentality and foundational soundness
  • Most work at Huygens Engineers is done in our own premises, travel to customer locations is usually for meetings and commissioning purposes

  • The candidate will work with colleagues who have affinity with physical modelling in MatLab/Simulink, Python, and also with colleagues with knowledge of power converter control, grid connection design and electromagnetic design.
